There is a question always asked when people hear of a woman being raped. Did she really ask for it? If the rape was done by acquaintance then this question becomes even more common in people's minds. What's worse is that the victims themselves start to doubt if a crime actually happened. There needs to be more awareness about the actual definition of sexual assault so victims are not confused into thinking nothing wrong happened to them.
There is actually a rape myth that women who were raped really wanted it. The covert rapist uses this to create doubt in the women's story if he ever gets accused. What's worse is he uses this rape myth to create doubt in his victim's mind so she never comes forward to accuse him. He does this by intimidating her not to fight back during the rape and using manipulation in the form of words. By not fighting back she will have severe mental pain for a long time as a result. She will keep hating herself for not doing enough to stop the rape and she will also start to believe she really wanted the rape to happen like the rapist told her. This is what the rapist wants. He wants her to be in a state of confusion.
The use of alcohol by a rapist to commit rape is a very common one. A woman who is too drunk to remember the details will always be unsure if she really wanted to have sex. Alcohol is the least known date rape drug but is the most commonly used one. The rapist uses alcohol knowingly to incapacitate and confuse their victim.
The date rapist will act as if everything was consensual after the rape and will carry on as if nothing wrong happened. This is the hallmark of narcissist who tries to will whatever reality they want. Most rapists have narcissistic personality disorder and this drives their need to demean and abuse others so they feel more secure. This is why rape comes natural to them. They are fully aware of the incredible trauma rape can inflict on a person. They use that trauma to instill words of manipulation on their rape victim to make her think no one would believe her or act like the rape was consensual.
One good example is Jian Ghomeshi who became convinced his acts of physical abuse were consensual and yet he did it without warning and never asked his victims if they really wanted it. His self delusion was so strong he even showed a video of one of his abuses to his supervisors at work who promptly let him go after being horrified.
Bill Cosby is another example. His alleged crimes span over decades and a multitude of women have come forward with rape accusations. A number of them are celebrities themselves. One has to ask themselves if he is guilty how could he get away with so many horrible crimes.
